Welcome, Joe!
The members, board and staff of Citizens for Public Justice are delighted to welcome our new executive director, Joe Gunn, to the CPJ team.
Joe is pleased to have joined CPJ, having watched CPJ’s development over the years, including the recent move to Ottawa. “CPJ’s articulation of public justice and work for the common good gives concrete expression to what I experienced in Latin America’s expression of ‘the preferential option for the poor.’” Joe said. “It is a welcome and exciting challenge to bring this positive message to life through CPJ’s work in Ottawa and across the country.”
Policy analyst Chandra Pasma also expressed her excitement: “The staff are very happy that Joe has now joined us, and we anticipate the rich insights Joe will bring to our dialogue on justice and policy in Canada.”
Joe comes to CPJ with extensive experience in advocating for justice in Canada and internationally. Joe worked in Latin America in refugee camps and as a country director for Canadian Save the Children. Here in Canada, Joe has engaged in policy development, research and advocacy, most recently at the Office of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation established by the Notre Dame Sisters in Ottawa.
An active member of the community, Joe has also served as the founding vice-chair of KAIROS Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives, and has been active in the Canadian Council of Churches’ Commission for Justice and Peace as well as their ecumenical health care initiative.
Joe is looking forward to meeting members of the CPJ community – please join us in extending a warm welcome to Joe when you have the opportunity!
