Support CPJ’s climate change work!

The 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) taking place in Durban, South Africa, has begun! There, leaders will discuss progress in dealing with climate change, and negotiate a new international agreement to replace the Kyoto Protocol, which expires this year. Canada’s Minister of the Environment travels to Durban next week.

CPJ created a petition based upon the Canadian Interfaith Call for Leadership and Action on Climate Change. It highlights CPJ’s value for the Earth and the importance of creation care. We hope to have many signed petitions tabled in the House of Commons during COP17 (November 28 – December 9, 2011). What would you do to bring an end to hunger?

Hunger has become a reality for too many Canadians. No Canadian should go hungry.- Food Banks Canada.

June 1 is Hunger Awareness Day in Canada. It is a wake-up call to the need to address hunger in Canada and around the world.

Food Banks Canada estimates that approximately 2.7 million Canadians struggle to get enough food to eat. Many of these people make sacrifices and go without quite enough food, while others rely on food banks every month. According to the annual Hungercount report from 2009, 794,738 Canadians used a food bank in March 2009.

So, what can we do to really address this problem –to get to the root and bring an end to hunger in Canada? What would you do? Read more »

Pass "In from the Margins" in the Senate!

UPDATE:

The Senate report, In from the Margins, passed in the Senate last week! This means that the government has to respond within 150 days to the over 70 recommendations made by the Subcommittee on Cities.

But it is still important to contact our Members of Parliament and Senators about the importance of taking strong action to eliminate poverty in Canada, for the sake of dignity for all Canadians, and for the sake of our economy. The G8 - G20 in Canada: A Time for Inspired Leadership and Action
