Electoral Reform in Ontario
Monday, September 24th, 2007
In the October 10 provincial election, Ontarians have the chance to vote for a new electoral system. This system, proposed by the Ontario Citizens’ Assembly, is similar to the current system but adds more proportionality – the idea that the legislature should reflect the percentages of votes that parties received in the election. For example, if Party A receives 10% of the votes in Ontario, it should receive 10% of the seats in the legislature.
CPJ has supported proportional representation for many years, and you can read more about the new system in our brochure [PDF 425kB].
