The environment is more important than politics
Canwest has a story today reporting comments by Preston Manning that climate change is too important to be politicized by partisan debate. Manning was at a conference organized by the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy, Securing Canada's Future in a Climate-Changing World. He argues that nobody wants to destroy the environment or to destroy the economy, so arguments that portray opponents as wanting to do that are simplistic and unhelpful.
Manning's comments were endorsed by Bernard Lord, former Progressive Conservative premier of New Brunswick, Pierre Marc Johnson, former Parti Québécois premier of Quebec, and Mike Harcourt, former New Democratic premier of British Columbia.
Given the disappointing role of the environment in the recent election, it is good to see such cross-partisan support for action on the environment.
