Addressing Injustice in Canada

Poverty. Climate Change. Food. These are only a few of the critical issues facing our society today. Some may affect us on a personal level, others not as much. But each one is a matter of public concern. And each one is a matter of public justice.

What is public justice? Put simply it’s the political dimension of loving our neighbours, caring for creation and achieving the common good. It goes deeper than band-aid solutions to injustice. It asks why injustice persists and what we can do to address it.

Your Task: research a key public issue in Canada and then, using your knowledge and creativity, share your thoughts in a three-minute video. Your video should also include a response to these central questions:

  1. Why is this issue a matter of public justice?
  2. What needs to be done by the government, corporations, NGOs, and all Canadians?
  3. What do you want to do about it?

Some current issues to consider:

  • Poverty in Canada
  • Ecological justice and climate change
  • Newcomers and refugees
  • Healthcare
  • Education
  • Food security
  • Indigenous rights
